|
Is there a limit to the rewards or points I can earn?
Yearly limits for fitness points only apply to your Vitality Health status, not to Vitality Active Rewards. This means that all fitness points will count towards achieving your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals, whether or not you have reached 30,000 base fitness points, the yearly limit for Vitality fitness points. This is to keep you motivated to earn Vitality Active Rewards all throughout the year. Keep doing fitness activities to earn Vitality points! Daily points limits do apply such that if more than one fitness activity is completed in one day, only the higher points earning activity will count for points for that day - this rule applies to yearly limits and to Vitality Active Rewards.
|
If I activate Vitality Active Rewards, will this give me access to Vitality gym and fitness partners?
No, you need to activate each gym and fitness benefit separately, as certain terms and conditions will apply. If you have activated the gym and fitness benefits, you can use those partner facilities to earn Vitality Active Rewards points. For more information, click here.
|
How do you calculate my goal each week?
Goals are personalised to your activity levels, health status and the cardiovascular review that you may be asked to complete when you activate Vitality Active Rewards.
|
I did the necessary fitness events to achieve my goal but the points are not reflecting and I haven't received my reward?
- Make sure your Vitality points have synced with Vitality before the goal cycle closes every Friday at midnight. We allow until midnight on Tuesday night for data to come through before issuing rewards on Wednesday morning.
- If you are using a device or participating in a Vitality Race Event, sync your device or capture your race event points before the goal cycle closes on Friday night. If you did this and it still doesn't reflect, contact the Vitality call centre on 0860 99 88 77.
- If you choose to get active at a fitness facility with a Vitality iPad device, make sure you log in to the app with your Vitality membership number.
If you track your fitness activities on a fitness device or app, make sure your fitness device or app is linked to Vitality and that you sync it in time to reach your weekly goal.
|
If I work out on a Friday, will my points reflect before the goal cycle closes that night?
Your Vitality points may not reflect right away, but as long as you have captured your points - synced your device or captured your Vitality Race Events results - before Friday midnight then your points will count towards that week's goal.
|
If I achieve more Vitality fitness points than required to reach my goal will those points count as credit towards next week's goal?
No, you need to earn the required amount of Vitality points each week in order to achieve your goal for that week. Extra points will not be carried over from a previous week's goal.
|
Why did my new weekly exercise goal increase when I didn't achieve my last goal?
Vitality Active Rewards sets each weekly goal that takes your entire Vitality Active Rewards history into account. This means that it's possible for your goal to increase even if you didn't reach your goal in the last cycle, depending on all your previous goal cycles. It is also possible for your goal to remain the same even if you achieved it the previous week.
|
What are fitness days?

|
Your Spend Goal
|
I noticed that you are only counting my transactions when they are cleared and not on the date of my transaction. Why is this?
We only count your transactions once they have been cleared, and not on the date of your transaction.
By measuring qualifying spend for Vitality Active Rewards this way, we can provide you with a more accurate view of your Spend points. This lowers the chances of your earned points being reduced later if the final processed amount changes.
|
Why do my transactions have to clear before I earn spend points?
When you spend with your Discovery Bank card, transactions show up as "pending" in the linked account's transaction list quickly. Sometimes merchants can take a few days to request funds from us, and for the transaction to be cleared. During that time, the final amount could change due to things like merchant holding fees, refunds, tips, and currency exchange rate fluctuations. Once a transaction is processed, we still count it towards the week in which the transaction was made.
While transactions are still pending, you will see these points reflected in your Spend ring as "pending," with a dark grey ring indicating the potential progress they will contribute to closing your Spend ring as soon as they have been processed. For example, if you have R300 of pending transactions in the current goal week, it will say "300 pending" under your Spend ring. Once these transactions have been processed - even if it only happens in the new goal week - they will still count towards the Spend goal for the week in which the transaction took place.
|
Is reaching a Spend goal not against the principle of responsible spending?
Our Vitality programmes and benefits are designed to promote responsible behaviour. Vitality Active Rewards encourages consistent behaviour each week, and Vitality Money discourages irresponsible spending.
Through the Vitality Money Financial Analyser, we can help you manage your money better by automatically categorising your transactions, creating budgets and mini-budgets, and setting alerts to help you meet your budget. You can use this tool to make sure that don't spend more of your disposable income than you can responsibly afford.
Your Spend goal is only unlocked if you maintain a minimum savings account balance. The Spend goal rewards you for consolidating your spend within Discovery Bank. The Spend goal follows the same principles applied with your Exercise and Drive goals, where your personal goal target is personalised based on your previous weeks' achievement history.
The Spend goal vary based on the average spend expected at your income level, based on whether you're a Gold, Platinum, Black, or Purple client, or have a Ðiscovery Account. These amounts are in line with the qualifying spend already applied for all your other Vitality Money dynamic lifestyle, travel, and integration rewards.
|
How is my Spend goal changing?
We've simplified the Spend goal to follow the same principles already applied to your Exercise and Drive goals, where you have a weekly, personalised goal target that increases or decreases based on your previous weeks' achievement history.
That means three changes for you:
- Reaching your goal will be based on weekly spend where every R10 spent is 1 point towards your Spend goal, regardless of the number or size of your transactions.
- Spend towards your weekly goal starts at 0 every week, with no more carry-over of Spend points week to week. If you overachieve, your goal you will get a Sneak Peek of a tile on the gameboard, allowing you to change your chosen tile and try to hit a higher value tile.
- Your personal goal target will increase if your spend increases, and decreases if you consistently don't achieve your goal.
|
I have the iPhone benefit, what do I need to know about the changes?
New activations for the Vitality Active Rewards with iPhone benefit ended on 30 June 2023. Clients with active benefit will continue to earn monthly cash back rewards for the remainder of their existing iPhone budget period.
|
What happens if my transactions only clear after the next Tuesday?
If you have pending transactions that only clear after the Tuesday deadline, we will allocate Spend points retrospectively based on the transaction date once the merchant processes it. This means that even if a transaction is still pending after the Tuesday deadline, it will still count towards your Spend goal if it meets the criteria.
If a Spend goal is achieved retrospectively, you'll receive a play on the gameboard on the next Rewards Wednesday, automatically. There's no need to report anything to Vitality.
|
Why have you changed the goal requirements for me to close my Spend goal?
We are constantly updating our Vitality programmes and benefits to ensure they align with positive behavioural objectives. Our Vitality Active Rewards programme is designed to motivate you to consistently achieve your goals week-on-week and promote long-term positive behaviour change.
The Spend goal has been specifically created to encourage you to use your Discovery Bank card for transactions instead of cash, allowing for the Vitality Money Financial Analyser to accurately track your spending and send you smart alerts to help you stay within your budget.
We have introduced dynamic goal targets based on your previous goal achievement, and removed points carry over, to further encourage this behaviour and create a personalised goal for each client.
|
Why are you not allowing me to carry over my points for my Spend goal?
Weve aligned the Spend goal to follow the same principles already applied with your Exercise and Drive goals, which is that every Saturday you start a goal from zero, with no carry-over of points from your previous week's behaviour.
Vitality Active Rewards aims to drive consistent behaviour week-on-week, and in the case of the Spend goal it is to encourage you to use your Discovery Bank card instead of cash, and regularly transact in a way that allows for the Vitality Money Financial Analyser to accurately track your spend and help you remain within your chosen budgeting goals.
In addition, the gameboard is more rewarding than ever before - you can now earn back your spend on groceries, pharmacies, and fuel in Discovery Miles on a 1:1 rands to Discovery Miles ratio, up to a maximum of Ð1,500 per category. And if you manage to achieve two times your weekly Spend goal, you will be eligible for a Sneak Peek. This allows you to momentarily reveal a tile on the gameboard without selecting it, giving you the chance to earn even more Discovery Miles.
|
If my transaction has not cleared in time to achieve my Spend goal, will you still grant me a Gameboard play the following week?
Spend points are allocated retrospectively based on the transaction date once the merchant has processed it. Although these points may still show as 'pending' beyond the Tuesday after the goal week in which the transaction was made, if the Spend goal is retrospectively achieved after processing, a play will be awarded on the gameboard available on the next Rewards Wednesday. You don't need to worry about reporting this to Vitality as this is an automated process.
|

You can attempt one or both of your goals each month and will earn points based on how many goals you have achieved over a four-month period.
|

Instant Rewards
|
What are instant rewards?
Instant rewards are rewards that you can get as soon as you reach your goal. These can include a free coffee or the opportunity to make a donation to one of Vitality's charitable initiatives through MoveToGive. If you prefer to wait, you can play the gameboard on Rewards Wednesday to see what Discovery Miles you can earn. When you do choose an instant reward, you can use it right away as soon as you complete your goal ring.
|
What is a boosted instant reward?
A boosted instant reward is a more valuable instant reward that you can redeem when you achieve an exercise goal streak. Streaks of 5, 10, 15, 25, 50 and multiples of 100 qualify.
|
Active X
|
What is a Rewards Multiplier?
The Rewards Multiplier allows you to double the value of the tile that you have selected on the gameboard. You will earn a Rewards Multiplier for the first time you achieve the following exercise goal streaks: 5, 10, 15, 25, and 50. Thereafter, you will earn a Rewards Multiplier for every 100 (and multiples of 100) exercise goal streak you achieve. You can also choose to boost your instant reward with the Rewards Multiplier and receive a more valuable instant reward as you achieve your goal. A Rewards Multiplier cannot be carried over to the following week and will be applied automatically to the first tile selected.
|
What is a Sneak Peek?
The Sneak Peek allows you to view a tile and gives you the option to select another tile without losing your play. You can earn the Sneak Peek by earning double the points to achieve your Exercise and Spend goals or by having a perfect Drive week. You can earn up to one Sneak Peek per activity ring per month - this works out to three sneak peeks per a for members with active exercise, spend and drive rings. A Sneak Peek cannot be carried over to the following week.
|
What is a Rest Week?
A Rest Week allows you to take a break from your Exercise goal for a week. You need to achieve 25 consecutive exercise goals to earn a Rest Week. Your Rest Week does not expire and can be used at any time for when you are unable to achieve your current or previous exercise goal. It cannot be used to complete a future dated goal or a goal that has passed more than one goal cycle.
|
Can I double all my Discovery Miles earned with a Rewards Multiplier?
With the Rewards Multiplier, when you achieve an exercise goal streak, you can double your rewards in the form of a boosted Instant Rewards or Discovery Miles equal to double the tile value of your first gameboard play. In other words, if you earn more than one gameboard play (because of closing multiple rings), the Rewards Multiplier will only apply to the Discovery Miles uncovered from the first gameboard play.
|
Can I use a Rest Week for a missed goal two weeks ago?
You can only apply a Rest Week to the current or previous week and cannot apply a Rest Week to a goal that has passed more than one goal cycle. If you want to apply a Rest Week to a given goal week, you will need to do so before the following Tuesday at midnight before the next Rewards Wednesday.

The Vitality Active Rewards money goal incentivises people to swipe more (in other words, spending more), is this in-line with helping people manage their debt?
We know that our clients are spending regularly, and we want to reward you for using your Discovery Bank card, which is an efficient, safe and convenient method of payment. Vitality Active Rewards has been designed to keep your Discovery Bank card top of mind and maximise your benefits, ensuring a balance between spending and saving. Importantly, however, we want to encourage responsible spending, which means we don't want your day-to-day spending to impact your savings levels. If your savings levels drop below a minimum level, your money ring will reset.
You will lose Vitality Money points if your behaviour causes your financial health to deteriorate. You can check your Vitality Money points and status on the Discovery Bank app to see what impact these changes have on your financial health. As a behavioural bank, Discovery Bank works with Vitality Money to help you bank better and reward you for reaching your financial goals. Because of this, we have built Vitality Money into the Discovery Bank product selection.

This means that all fitness points will count towards reaching your weekly Active Rewards goals, whether or not you have reached 30 000 base fitness points, the yearly limit for Vitality fitness points.

- The Activity History under Vitality Active Rewards on the Discovery app only shows the Vitality fitness points you've earned that count towards your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goal. Any difference in points is due to the annual fitness points limit which does not apply to Vitality Active Rewards but does apply to Vitality status.

- These Vitality points may not reflect right away, but as long as you have captured your points - synced your device, checked in on the iPad points device at your fitness facility, earned your points at a parkrun event or captured your Vitality race event - before Friday midnight, then your points will count towards that week's goal.
- We allow until Tuesday midnight for the points you've earned by Friday midnight the previous week to reflect.
- Rewards are only awarded on Wednesday so that there is enough time for the points you earned to pull through.
|

|
If I achieve more Vitality fitness points than required to reach my goal will those points count as credit towards next week's goal?
No, you need to earn the required amount of Vitality points each week in order to achieve your goal for that week. Extra points will not be carried over from a previous week's goal.
|
Why did my new weekly goal increase when I didn't achieve my last goal?
Vitality Active Rewards sets each weekly goal that takes your entire Vitality Active Rewards history into account. This means that it's possible for your goal to increase even if you didn't reach your goal in the last cycle, depending on all your previous goal cycles. It is also possible for your goal to remain the same even if you achieved it the previous week.

|
Why is my Apple Watch penalty amount so high?
The reason for a higher penalty amount is that Vitality could not deduct your Discovery Card with the Apple Watch penalty amount for the previous Apple Watch goal cycle for various reasons such as: insufficient funds, frozen accounts etc. In instances where Vitality cannot deduct your Discovery Card for the above mentioned reason, Vitality will deduct your Discovery Card account with the outstanding Apple Watch penalty amount and the full monthly penalty fee for the current Apple Watch goal cycle, even though you may have reached all your Vitality Active Rewards Exercise goals in the current Apple Watch goal cycle.
Illustrative example: Apple Watch goal cycle for January 2023 - you achieved 2 goals and therefore your Apple Watch penalty for this cycle is 75%. Vitality was unable to deduct your Discovery Card due to insufficient funds on the 10th February 2023. You have an outstanding Apple Watch penalty of 75%. In the February 2023 Apple Watch goal cycle you achieved all 4 goals and you would not have had any penalty amount deducted to your Discovery Card on 10th March 2023. However, because you have an outstanding penalty amount from your January Apple Watch goal cycle of 75%, the goals you achieved in February 2023 will not be taken into account and you will be deducted the outstanding Apple Watch penalty for January (75%) + the full monthly penalty for February (100%) on the 10th March 2023.
|

Why was my Apple Watch penalty amount not deducted to my Discovery Card this month?

- You achieved all your weekly Active Rewards goals in the previous month.
- Your Apple Watch billing cycle has not started.
- You received an Apple Watch Welcome notification that incorrectly indicated the Apple Watch goal period that would be used to calculate your Apple Watch penalty. To ensure that you were not prejudiced we moved your Apple Watch Billing cycle to match what was communicated to you in your Welcome notification.
- You haven't collected your Apple Watch. The Apple Watch billing cycle only starts the next full month after collecting your Apple Watch.
|
