A new level of performance with the Vitality Elite Fitness Assessment
Introducing a brand new, high-performance assessment for Vitality members who move beyond the ordinary – the Vitality Elite Fitness Assessment. This fitness assessment is aimed at athletes who are serious about sport, and includes body measurements, mobility and stability evaluations, and a cycling or running maximal performance test. The Vitality Elite Fitness Assessment will be unleashed on 3 June 2014.
The details of the assessment
This assessment is done at high-performance centres and universities around the country, and caters for individuals who take part in sporting activities on a regular basis. A biokineticist or sports scientist will take your employees who want to participate through the assessment – it takes about 90 minutes to complete and costs R1 500.
If you are a Discovery Health member you will need to pay for it from your own pocket. This amount can be claimed back from your Medical Savings Account, according to your Plan type and available benefits.
Based on their results, your employees will get training guidelines to help them improve their performance. You and your employees can read about the individual tests of the assessment in the Vitality Elite Fitness Assessment benefit guide on the ‘Vitality’ page on www.discovery.co.za.
Who qualifies for this assessment?
There are certain qualifying criteria for the Vitality Elite Fitness Assessment. This is to ensure the safety of all our members. Some of the components of the assessment are very strenuous and could be risky if the participant is not highly-involved in sport and other physical activities. Therefore, they have to:
- Be between 18 and 59 years old;
- Complete one of the events in the qualifying times listed in the benefit guide; and
- Pass the pre-participation screening and give their consent by signing a consent form on the day of their appointment.
If any of your employees meet all these criteria, they can make an appointment. When they call to do this, they will be taken through the pre-participation screen. They can contact the universities or high-performance centres directly – the list of participating centres is in the benefit guide.
Your employees will earn Vitality points
If your employees complete the Vitality Elite Fitness Assessment, they can earn 2 500 Vitality points and 7 500 bonus points, twice a year. These points count towards the fitness point limits. They must complete the assessments at least five months apart to earn their points.
Employees can earn points even if they’re still working on their fitness
If your employees are still on their journey towards optimum fitness, they can earn thousands of Vitality points too! The existing Vitality Fitness Assessment offers up to 7 500 Vitality fitness points, twice a year. Read more about this assessment on the ‘Vitality’ page on www.discovery.co.za.
Encourage all your employees to get active and keep up the great work. We know they can reach their fitness goals!
