Remember that one Vitality Health Check / Vitality Health Check for 65+ a year is paid for from the screening and prevention benefit of a medical scheme administered by Discovery Health. For any additional in-programme costs, including for an additional Vitality Health Check, Vitality Health Check for 65+, Vitality Fitness Assessment, Vitality Functional Assessment, Vitality HealthyWeight, and Vitality travel booking fees, the updated rates will be available on the website from 1 December 2023.
1.Vitality points updates
Vitality Health Check points
From 1 January 2024, the number of Vitality points you can earn for simply completing a Vitality Health Check will double to 5,000 Vitality points. We will also award you additional Vitality points for having 2 or more metrics in range, provided no results are classified as high risk, up to the same maximum of 22,500 points for a Vitality Health Check. If any of your results are high risk, you will still earn the base amount of 5,000 Vitality points.
Ranges for members 65+ are slightly different. If you are 65 years and older, you can find your ranges by logging into your profile and visiting the Vitality Health Check page.
Fitness points
We're also expanding the ways in which you can earn Vitality fitness points, recognising short, high intensity workouts and long, light intensity workouts.
- Earn 100 points for a workout of 15 to 29 minutes at a moderate or high intensity of over 70% of your age related maximum heart rate.
- Earn 200 points for a workout of 60 to 89 minutes and 300 points for a workout longer than 90 minutes, for light intensity workouts of 60% to 69% of your age-related maximum heart rate.
While all Vitality fitness points count towards your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals, only the first 1,000 points each year for speed workouts, light workouts and short high intensity workouts count towards your Vitality Health status.
Cardio fitness points
The most reliable measure of cardio fitness is VO2 max. This is the maximum amount of oxygen that the heart, lungs and muscles use effectively during exercise. From 2024, Vitality members can earn up to 10,000 Vitality fitness points every year. This will be automatically awarded based on your VO2 max, as measured through an Apple, Garmin or Samsung fitness device, or from the results of a Vitality Fitness Assessment.
Points earned for cardio fitness will add up to the maximum 30,000 Vitality points that you can earn for fitness in a year.
Due to low take-up, the Vitality High Performance Fitness Assessment will be discontinued in 2024.
2.Vitality Travel
In 2024, we're aligning our Vitality Travel benefits structure with our other HealthyLiving rewards - to get members up to higher rewards quicker - based on completing your Vitality Health Check and Vitality Age assessment.
Here's how it will work:
- All Vitality members receive a minimum 10% discount on local and international flights.
- Members can boost their Vitality Health discount to 25% on completion of a Vitality Health Check and Vitality Age assessment.
- Members with a qualifying Discovery Bank account can boost their savings up to 75% on flights. Discounts are dependent on the qualifying bank account, card colour, product, Vitality Money status and spend.
- The Vitality Travel discount will be allocated on a per member basis next year. This means that each adult on your membership is responsible for completing their assessments in order to maximise their own discounts. The discount for children aged 18 years or younger will match the Vitality Health discount of the adult on the policy that has the highest Vitality Health discount.
- All members will continue to get up to 25% savings on car hire and accommodation.
